Migraines tends to linger on for hours to days and the throbbing pain can be severe. Visit your health care doctor to help you diagnosis migraines. Your doctor will probably test your blood, do a spinal tap, or take images, like MRI and CT scans.

Common Types of Migraines

There many types of migraines. Here are some common migraines that our chiropractors treat.

Migraine without Aura

This is the most common type of migraine. It causes a horrible, throbbing headache along with nausea. These migraines can also cause blurry vision, fatigue, and mood changes. The symptoms often get worse due to light, sound, and strong smells. Many people who suffer from this type of migraine have attacks a few times a year to a few times a week.

Migraine with Aura

This type of migraine is also called a complicated migraine. This type of migraine causes visual disturbances ten minutes to an hour before the headache begins. Many people lose part or all of their vision before the headache starts. Some people experience numbness or weakness on one side of the body. Trouble speaking and confusion can also occur. When the headache starts, the symptoms are similar to that of migraine without aura.

Migraine with Brainstem Aura

This type of migraine is seen most often in teenage girls. Many doctors believe that they are associated with a girl’s menstrual cycle. Right before the headache begins, partial vision loss, total vision loss, or double vision can occur. Dizziness vertigo, slurred speech, ringing in the ears, and fainting can occur. When the headache begins, it is often felt in the back of the head on both sides.

Chronic Migraines

A chronic migraine can be a migraine with or without aura. These migraines are characterized by headaches that occur fifteen or more times over a period of three months. These migraines occur so frequently that they are disabling. People who suffer from chronic migraines need preventative medication to function.
